Elliot and his new family!!

Hi Carol -

Just wanted to give you an update on Elliot.  He had a very busy day today.  We had some friends come over to help install a garage door opener we got for our wedding (two months ago!).  Elliot made friends fast and was so easygoing!  Everyone adored him!  But, he missed out on his morning, mid-morning, noon mid-afternoon and afternoon nap, so he is really sleepy!  :)

We took both dogs out on a walk last night, it was a challenge!!  Elliot was so curious that he was zig-zag-ing across the sidewalk, but he had a good time.  Abby was running behind trying to keep up with him.  They are both in need of leash training.  I have an evaluation set up at Triple Crown for doggie school in mid January.  Can't wait!

We have gotten to see Elliot's mischevious side recently.  I am going to have to re-wrap some presents, we discovered Elliot has an affinity for shredding bags and tissue paper.  (That's Eskie, right?) He also enjoys shredding carpet.  Veeerry interesting!  You definitley have to keep your eye on him, but he is really entertaining, and for the most part, well behaved.

:) Hope all is well!!!

UPDATE: Wednesday, December 14, 2005 7:14 PM

Hi Carol -

Hope all is well in Eskie land! Just wanted to send you an update on Elliot, he is doing GREAT!  Abby and him are becoming better friends each day and have learned to share very well.  He brings out the best in Abby, and submerges some neurotic tendencies she sometimes has since he is so easygoing!

Elliot went to our vet yesterday for a checkup.  He got a healthy report and so much attention from everyone!  Our regular vet was so impressed with Elliot and how gorgeous and sweet he is!  They confirmed everything about the heartworm stipulations that you had informed us of, he will be on Heartgard until March, when he will be retested.  Until then, we are starting him on Frontline as a flea preventative and are giving him his first Heartgard tomorrow.  They just reccommended we give him lots of excercise so he can regain some muscle mass no doubt lost while in heartworm treatment.  Abby has been exercising him well, so that won't be a problem.  They also did an eye exam, because we noticed him running into some stuff and being slightly clumsy as well as his eye kind of lolling to the side.  Apparently, he has some loss of vision in his right eye, but nothing major, no infection, but it just means we have to take a few extra precautions with him.  The vet reccommended getting some stickers to put on the sliding glass door at his level so we don't have a schnozz injury as well!  :)

He has taken to sleeping in the bed with us, although he isn't much of a jumper, so he has to be lifted into bed, but he cuddles up with me all night and is so sweet.  We are probably going to get a stepstool for him.  Lifting him into the bed is fine and well, but you end up losing your spot to him.  :)  Abby and him snuggled last night and took up 3/4 of the bed.  How cute!

I am trying to take some pictures, but we have a fussy old digital camera, and Elliot really hates the camera, I think it might be something with the flash.  We bought him a new collar and cute gold bone tag.  We also gave him a bath last night and his fur is shiny and so white!  He looks very refined!!

Well that is it for now, hope all is well!

Carol -

Thanks for the information, it will be very useful.  Thank you also for being such a great help in us making the adoption decision.  It was hard, but I know we made the right choice.  We love Elliot, he is absolutely enchanting!!  He is asleep right now in the living room with Abby.  They are both absolutely exhausted and are due for some rest.  They ate dinner when we got home, Abby ate Elliot's food and Elliot ate Abby's.  But there weren't any issues while eating, which was good.  They played for quite a while, I attached some pictures of that and some of him as well.  He found the toy box almost immediately and has drug out most everything to play with. Abby didn't seem to mind. We have been giving him lots of attention and talking to him, he seems to be not very skittish being in a new place, but very curious about his surroundings, he keeps wandering off but comes right back when we call him.  Abby gave him a tour of the backyard and he seems to like it, but it was dark out so they didnt stay out too long.  All in all, i think he is doing well and will continue to do so.  Abby is a little nervous, but i think she is really tired more than anything.

The pictures are cute!  I will continue to update you on his progress and send pictures.  He really isn't crazy about the camera from what I can tell, not too mention, he doesn't sit still long enough to take a picture!! :)

UPDATE: 12-11-05
Elliot has been adopted by a wonderful family! They came to visit today and left with our Elliot...he charmed his way into their hearts and actually had everyone having a great time just watching him. We miss his mischievious little smile already but know that he is in the best of hands with his new mom & dad! He even has a new little sister named Abby! He loves to play with her and when she says jump...he says how high! ;) We know Elliot will be very happy! Can't wait for the updates to come!!

September 2005
Elliot is a high energy 25 pound little Eskie mix. He loves attention and playtime as he is still in the puppy stage. He doesn't seem to be housebroken, but we don't know if it's because of his trauma or if he just prefers being outside. We believe him to be only a year old...Elliot was dumped at a construction site in Austin. A caring "animal angel" rescued him & contacted New Leash on Life!
He is very aggressive towards our cats - so it would be best to have a forever family with no or outdoor cats. Elliot loves other dogs...wants to play, play, play...never showing any sign of aggressiveness at all male or female.
When Elliot went to the vet for shots, etc....the vet determined that he has heartworms. He will need to be treated & since he is young & in fairly good shape, we expect him to recover with no problems. However, this will require a few weeks of limited activity while he recuperates from the Heartworm treatment before he can resume his full activity level. He is already had one treatment for heart worms and will have another on Nov 15th.
