As Chapters of the same national organization, Heart Bandits, New Leash on Life! works VERY closely with our sister group, Houston Eskie Rescue in the Houston area.  Houston Eskie Rescue (HER) is another all volunteer, fostering organization dedicated to the rescue and re-homing of American Eskimo Dogs and American Eskimo Dog mixes as valuable members of the adopting families.

HER works in cooperation with the national American Eskimo Dog rescue organization, Heart Bandits, and employs their strict guidelines for all adoptions. Believing that responsible owners will vaccinate as required by local laws and spay or neuter their pets to help prevent overpopulation of homeless pets, NLOL & HER assures that all dogs for adoption are up to date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, heartworm negative, and parasite free. We require that all adopting families consistently provide their dogs with annual health exams, heartworm and other parasite preventative and treatment, as well as general medical treatment as needed.

Adopting an Eskie with HER

Prior to adoption, HER requires all adopting families to fully complete Adoption Applications before meeting any dogs available for adoption; and requires veterinarian or other credible references, a home check, an adoption interview to determine the suitability of the family and dog to be adopted, and completion of an Adoption Agreement which details the conditions of any adoption and the conditions under which the dog must live. The adoption fees charged are applied toward the cost of medical treatment to ready the dogs for adoption. Following an adoption, HER requires all adopting families to communicate regularly with HER concerning the health and behavior of the dog adopted, and encourages that pictures also be sent to HER. Follow-up visits are conducted to assure the dog and family are bonding well and to help alleviate any problems which may arise. If for any reason the adopting family cannot keep a dog adopted from HER or from Heart Bandits through HER, the dog must be returned to HER or Heart Bandits and may not be given, sold, surrendered, abandoned, or euthanized.
